About the Original
The Family Ferrari
The dream of a Ferrari with four doors as a sedan design moved the minds of the scene for a long time. In 1980, this desire was so great that Sergio Pininfarina felt called upon to create a Prototype for the Italian plant. Conceived from the outset as a competitor to Jaguar’s Type XJ or Mercedes-Benz’s SEL 450, designer Leonardo Fioravanti sat down at his drawing board and designed the bodywork, assisted by his colleague Diego Ottina. Smooth lines characterized the body design, with the door handles blending flush with the vehicle line.
Under the bonnet, Pininfarina went for the 5-litre, low-profile V12 engine from the 512 BB model to develop its power and transmit it to the rear wheels via the gearbox mounted on at the rear axle.
In 1980 at the Turin Motor Show, the sedan was presented to the public as the Ferrari Pinin, but as a non-roadworthy show car. In 1981, Enzo Ferrari himself finally rejected the construction as a production model and the unique car was sold in 2008 to a private collector, who first modified it into a drivable car.
