About the Original

The Yellow Dino

Under the term “The yellow Dino”, a racy sports car became famous in Ferrari history. Initially the car was presented to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1967. Back then, the press was euphoric and the journalist Josè Rosinki (L`Auto-Journal) wrote from one of the most beautiful man-made objects in his statement regarding the car, as it radiated pure vitality.

The Dino 206 Competitzione prototype, was a fully functional, bright yellow street-legal sports car, whose chassis and engine came directly from racing and were dressed by the specialists of Pininfarina. Responsible for the design and the racy look with gullwing doors was Paolo Martin, who had just joined the team at the time.

First, the young designer implemented his idea on a 10-times smaller scale model, which he worked out at home and then put over the chassis in aluminum on scale 1:1. If it had been up to Paolo Martin’s will, he would have realized the car without both, the front and rear wings, but he could not get his way.

This one-of-a-kind Ferrari is currently owned by the American car collector James Glickenhaus.
